Apple has made it possible for people to own new iPhones at a reasonable cost owing to their trade-in program. The customers who decide to swap their old iPhones are able to buy the newer version at a reduced price thus promoting more purchases and upgrades. This type of affordability comes as a relief as the prices of newly launched iPhones have been steadily increasing with every coming day. Further, customers do not have to feel guilty as the phones are either repurposed or properly disposed of as part of their green policy.

Does apple really thinks I’m going to trade in my iPhone 11 (in mint condition) for less than £300?  Absolutely not

Samsung will give near or 50% off and gives a $50-150 credit for accessories and depending on carrier offer another $100 off so a phone that’s say $1500 you get for around $700 with trade ins.  Apple doesn’t even give more for a trade in If say some paid extra for 500gb or something we get same as the base model.

I have had my 8+ for 3 years and it’s 99% perfect, always in a case and screen protector, and I was offered around £100 for it...

I love trade in, I calculated how much an iPhone 12 Pro would cost if I traded in my iPhone 11 Pro, and I have to say, it costs 50% less than the usual, meaning it costs less than an iPhone 12 or 11.

AT&T just gave me a $800 credit for my 11 when I upgraded. Crazy deal

I traded in one phone never again as they never give to you the quoting price even if only a year or two old and kept protected with case and screen saver. I would now give it away to a family member after spending the upwards of over a 1000plus . My Daughter is still using a old iPhone 7. Even when I had a old iPhone X she said she would use the iPhone 7 until it could no longer be updated anymore.

I love how i get $20 for my iPhone that once costed $700

You can sell your old phone on the open market for much more money.
Has sold my old phones on eBay for a decent amount of money which I can then use towards a new phone.
However, have needs to keep Backup phones in case a new phones break.  Have a 12 pro and a 14 pro.❤

People saying that you'll get more by selling an iPhone on ebay or somewhere else, let me tell you, no you don't. You don't get that much compared to the hassle you go through. It is because everybody can check Apple website to see what Apple is offering for that phone and if the phone is in really good condition, you'll get maybe $50-$100 more than what Apple is offering. Another genius move by apple to control the price of their second hand market. In doing so, most people would just rather trade-in, in turn Apple making more profit.

The problem with trading in phones is that when you buy your phone, it's worthless 4-to-5+ years later when you upgrade again.

Where should I send my old iPhone for the new one
by (100 points)
Meanwhile apple offered me $0.00 for my iphone 4s which I got new for over $700. You pretty much pay more for a protective case at the apple store than you would get in trading in last generations iphone

And here I am still using my iphone 6

No thanks, I think I'll keep my perfectly working iphone 6s. Not getting shafted today mate!

This is bad for me because I want a 12 mini but I have a iPhone 6
So I can’t trade it in

I will soon be getting an iPhone 13 pro. Apple does not want my current 6S.

It's easy, buy a device off a customer with a voucher for a new phone, worth much less than if they sold it themself, so that you can sell it as new.

It also maintains brand loyalty as trading in for a new iPhone is more convenient for most people than switching to an Android phone.

Ya lost me at “doing this makes apple products more affordable”

I never understood the benefits for selling an old iPhone back to Apple.
You get pennies for a still perfectly usable iPhone that you can use as a spare phone in case you need to send you "new" one for repairs.

Their trade in program is flawed. A fully functioning phone, with only a cracked back glass that works perfectly fine, is only available for recycle. Which means they will gladly take your phone for their goal. Without passing any benefits on to you. Keep your broken back glass iPhone and don’t recycle it, instead teach yourself how to repair the back glass or whatever else and just get more use out of it.

It also prevents people from having a backup iPhone to use should the new and more expensive one they bought from Apple suddenly get badly damaged or lost and, thus forcing the user to buy another expensive new iPhone instead of being able to revert to their older and already paid for iPhone.

“Benefits the customer” yea if the customer likes being shafted for a benefit.

I tried to trade in my brother's mint condition iphone 11 to apple for the 12 pro max. Apple only wanted $350 for a brand new iphone the year prior, which is unacceptable. I sold it on the used market for $550 (US)

The prices they offer for trade in are in many cases quite dramatically, and comically, significantly below market rates.

It’s often a good idea to cross check with stores that buy & sell used phones to see if you’re getting the most you can for your device.

U could get more money selling the phone urself
by (100 points)
I’m upgrading to the 13 Pro from the 7 and I would get less than £70 for it and it still works with no cracks on the screen so I’ll definitely be keeping it as a spare. It’s not much of a difference on a £949 phone

I never give them my old iPhones. I always need a secondary phone, and each time I upgrade, my previous main iPhone becomes the backup one. Now my main phone is the iPhone 8 Plus and my iPhone 6 is still serving me as my secondary phone which had served me for almost 7 years by now.
by (100 points)
I would use that program but unfortunately even for perfectly condition phones the prices they offer are abysmal compared to other companies and especially private selling (but that option in any category usually leads to higher sale yield)

You'd likely get more money for your old iPhone by selling it directly to someone else.
