Could anyone summarize the major distinctions between the new 24 inch imac and its predecessor, the old 27 inch imac?

The currently available 24-inch iMac is a lot thinner and lighter than the 27-inch iMac. There is a 4.5K display, a new detail color matched with accessories, a magnetic power socket. This model is powered by the Apple M1 chip which also brings better SSD read speeds as well as better single-core CPU performance in comparison to the 27 inch iMac. However, the 27 inch iMac is equipped with a higher equipped CPU and GPU to handle multi-core and graphics intensive applications. There are fewer number of ports available on 24 inch iMac but the device comes with a 1080p FaceTime camera and a more efficient cooling system which operates silently.

I must say that the old iMac’s (& iMac Pro’s) design looks so much more sleek and modern even though it’s thick. It has some class to it.

The old design is better.  I don't care how thin it is.  I want ports and functionality.

I don't know why but I feel like the old design of the iMac looks more premium than the new one. At least from the front.

27' imac still a great option , ports are needed most of the time Sr.

I really don’t like the direction apple are taking with these iMacs. They’ve gone from being something used by professionals to making it something that goes in a kids bedroom.

I have the 27" 2020 iMAC and am completely satisfied with it and loved being able to put the extra ram into it. also the weight didn't hurt because I never move it.

I love the 2020 design. It’s more classy. It even looks more futuristic :)

That old 27 inch mac looks so much better. The new one looks like a kids version with the white bezels

I've had my iMac 27" for almost a week now. I couldn't get over the colors for the new Mac. I'm in love with this computer! Thanks for your help and content! You helped me make my decision.

The 27 inch iMac design is still timeless to me. I still like the refresh though.

The 27 inch imac is killer, in years you are still going to be able to upgrade the ssd or ram which is a nice overall package

2 reasons why I’m sticking with 24 inch
1. It’s colorful! Gives it that cute nice pastel shade
And 2. It’ll fit on my desk since it’s small.  Heck I’d the get the big one but my desk is small...

I love and will always love the old iMac unibody design, a unique and memorable design that lasted for more than a decade.  I admit that the new design of the 2021 iMac is beautiful and very futuristic, but the design of the Intel iMac still remains among the best designs ever made by Apple.  It is a matter of habit and for many it is difficult to get used to the new design.

Here it is! All glorious with that beatiful colored chin and White bezels.
Remembering some people requesting a thin black box , basically a monitor, just a week ago.
This is beautiful

Although it is thinner and faster, I am still in love with the current 27 inch iMac design, it still looks more modern than the new 24 inch iMac.

I would still go with the 27inch iMac Pro because it's got more value and the convenience of adding more ram

IMO, design of the iMac 27 keeps on being way more beautiful than the newer iMac 24 M1

You were using a different os on the two models - macOS Big Sur 11.3 on the 24" M1 iMac and macOS Catalina 10.15.7 on the 27" Intel iMac. Would this make a difference anywhere, e.g. the browser test? Did you do any comparisons using the same version of OS on both?

Not really a fair comparison as the 24" iMac replaces the 21.5" iMac.
The upcoming iMac Pro will be replacing the 27" iMac Pro.

The old 27 iMac design was a beautiful silhouette.

those bezel will be very distracting when working

Thanks for the Apple promotional content! I don't understand the big hype about the new 24" iMac. It's a small entry-level iMac and unfortunately has very few USB inputs and especially no SD card reader. For a stationary computer, these shortcomings are very serious, so the bright colors don't really help. The screen only has 60Hz (old and cheap technology), no 120Hz and there is no matt glass. The M1 is very well suited for a laptop as it consumes little power. But neither for a Mac Mini nor for an iMac is the M1 designed. The Mac Mini and an iMac are plugged into the wall socket. The big weakness is noticeable in both, it lacks a dedicated graphics card and expandability of the working memory beyond the currently available 16 GB. Overall, I can therefore not recommend buying one, it is a step backwards in my opinion!

The front design of Intel iMac still looks better. More ports. upgradable RAM, SSD AND GRAPHICS CARD. The new iMac is just a trap.

Am I the only one who prefers the 'professional' look of the previous design??? Also, that screen is tiny! I would need a minimum 27 inch screen! ‍♂️

No door for Ram is huge.  That means not only a lot for money for memory, it means that you have to lay it out up front.  Jesh - you talked more about the color of the mouse and really who cares.
