The comfort as well as the fit of the new AirPods 4 is something which interests me. What are the differences between the earlier versions and the newer versions of the airpods?

The shape of the AirPods 4 has been altered, and this will affect their fit in the ear. In contrast to the AirPods 3 which had a quite large rounded shape and might have been uncomfortable on some users, the construct of AirPods 4 aims at being more comfortable fitting similar to the original AirPods model 1 and 2. The tip and quite a bulging area have been altered to ensure easy insertion into the ears and comfortable fit retention whilst still ensuring the large ear tip was used for enhanced audio quality.

These are MUCH better than AirPods 3. I even prefer their fit over AirPods Pro 2

I cant stop but think how good of a review this is, literally answered every question I had, like i hated the fit of 3rd gen but liked fit of 2nd. Compared ANC, compared mics, compared how good it is compared with pros, the difference with the cases. Literally everything that matters without any rambling about stuff no one cares about but youtubers. Its weird how some youtubers obcess about stuff that no one cares about, not dave. And its all one shot idk how he does that

thank you so much for showing and speaking about the differences between models, especially the fitting in the ear.

“Fits like OG AirPods” got me super hopeful about these, those for some reason are the most comfortable imo. I wanted to like AirPods Pro, and I didn’t mind the silicon, but the plastic “bulb” part of the pros (and other non-apple ANC earbuds) would press against the cartilage on the outside of my ear and it would hurt like hell after 5 minutes, so OG AirPods + ANC sounds like these might be for me

Have the same stance on the fitting for AirPod 2 being the best. It is the only reason why I still buy AirPod 2. Will consider AirPods 4 now since you liked the fitting.

I'm surprised! Although I am happy with the pros, it's good to know the feel is different. When I had the AirPods 3 it was indeed feeling 'sticking' out. Hope this will work better for more people.

I still loves airpods 2 shapes, it fits my ear so well although the audio quality is not that good but it's enough for me

These are releasing just as I lost one of my 3rd gen pods at the beach over the weekend. Those lasted years and never had issues. The base AirPods just feel more comfortable and sit in my ears better. Will definitely be picking these up

The fit test is all I’ve been waiting for. I’m glad I chose to read Dave’s content first.

I'm still on airpods 2 because of the fit. Do you think I can finally move to these new pair and be happy?

I can't believe how perfect these are for me. The fit is so much better, and you get good noise cancelation without that pressure feeling.

I’ve held onto my AirPods 2 because I absolutely love that fit!

Thank you for focusing on the actual fit of these things. I had to return my Airpod 3s a week after buying them because they hurt my ears. The Airpod 2s fit perfectly. I’m so glad to hear that the Airpod 4s bring the best of both worlds to people with small ears like us

Having had earpods, airpod 2, airpod 3, I can say airpod 3 has incredible bass for earbuds and the fit is better than the others that I've owned.

Agreed with the Gen 2 fit. I have a couple pairs of those I rotate all day long, and a pair of Pros I use when the situation calls for it, but I can't stand to wear them for very long. Tried gen 3 and instantly handed them down to my wife, who loved them, and has the gen 4 arriving tomorrow, so I'm sure she'll be pleased based on your review. Thanks for sharing the facts and your well educated opinion!

The silicone ear tip is only comfortable when it isn’t wet by earwax.

Love your side view camera angles for your ear. Really helpful! Nice job!

I had the original AirPods and upgraded to AirPods 3. I initially liked the 3's but as I used them more I found that they would easily not fit very well at all as my ears built up (I would guess sweat probably? maybe ear wax?) on the surface of the pods and I had to take them out and wipe them off to get better friction. This was not an issue on on the originals as they didn't rely on friction to stay in my ears, they just fit deeper in and sat comfortably. From what you're saying here Dave, AirPods 4 seems to be a no-brainer upgrade here for me as I still use my AirPods 3's all the time despite the fit issues.

Thanks SO much for this review! I completely agree about the fit and comfort. AirPods 2 has always been more comfortable than the 3rd gen, and I was worried I’d be left behind with the redesign. Glad to know gen 4 is closer to the gen 2 size!

Perfect review. Demo'd all of the models was thorough. Just what I needed. I bought Airpods 3 and Pros 2 but never used them as the fit was horrible compared to my Airpods 2. Excited for the 4s.

Excellent content and review! Thank you. Literally everything you mentioned about fit and audio quality were my issues as well. The only pair of air pods I own is the G2 because of the fit-- I even have a back up set! lol. But after that review I am willing to give AP G4 a try. Also, the quality of your content, audio, set, lighting, script, delivery, all of it, etc. is top notch and worthy of your nearly 4M followers. Keep this up.

I just watched MKBHD’s review before this and came away with this question..

For me the AirPod 1 & 2’s fitted perfectly. The 3’s were too bulky and gave ear ache after some time, but the sound was far superior. I wonder if the 4’s are more similar to the 3’s or 4’s? I suspect 3’s, I’m sure someone can shed some light on this??

I think i have my answer! Great vid.
