In ancient Rome, the Roman Forum served as the hub of public activity where all sorts of events such as elections, criminal trials or public speeches occurred. It developed over many centuries starting from the conditions of a boggy lake and which was encircled by administrative houses and other significant structures. As the myth goes, Romulus, the so-called founder of Rome was buried beneath the Forum. The Forum became derelict with the collapse of the Roman Empire but since the 18th century it has been restored and today’s visitors can see an open-air exhibition with numerous authentic remains and ruins. It gives an insight into the magnificence of the ancient civilization of Rome and the whole empire.
