I’ve come across a legend regarding the Trevi Fountain in Rome. Would you expand more on it?

There is a myth concerning the Trevi fountain which says that anyone who throws a coin into it or drinks the water from it is bound to return to Rome again. The fountain was built in 1751 and remains one of the most famous in the world as it is fed by the ancient Acqua Vergine aqueduct. Coins worth up to 700,000 Euros get thrown in the fountain every single year.

I have been to Rome when I was young.   Of course,  I threw a coin into the fountain.  Now , I am over 65.   I still hope I can visit Rome again in my life.   However,   I was told it is unsafe in Rome now ,  particular at the places of tourist.   A lot of sacmming,  robbery,   stealing  etc.   It is sad.
