The environmental impact would be immense, if, for example, termites, ants, or bees decided to go on strike. Termites, on the other hand, outnumber humans by about a factor of 10 and are an essential part of the food chain in the breakdown and recycling of organic materials. Their loss would mean the end of the interdependence pyramid of the tropics, filling up great oceans and important rivers with sediment, eventually turning the ocean into a wasteland.
