Cherophobia is perhaps best defined as a neurosis or psychosocial disorder characterized by an absence of anticipatory pleasure for experiences that are fundamentally enjoyable. It’s a real disorder, unlike the simple conventional wisdom that people who have fidelity or happiness phobia simply overthink. It’s caused by the fear that happiness will vanish at the same moment. The sufferers associate happiness with guilt. They may be in a loving relationship yet feel an unbearable weight of jealousy.
