Dark matter is one of the most unfathomable type of matter known to astronauers as it does not emit or absorb light or any radiation making it transparent. Its existence is only understood when the effects it possesses on visible matter such as galaxies or stars is observed. Galaxies wouldn’t even exist if dark matter didn’t exist, since galaxies wouldn’t be able to bind themselves with the dark matter. Dark matter also has a role in the expansion of galaxies as it carries within it strong gravitational impact which holds the current state of the universe in order. The existing of dark matter is sought out through processes such as gravitational lensing where the light from objects further out in the universe is warped indicating the existence of this dark matter.

In my opinion, known problems with the standard model now lie at the frontier of physics, so physicists need to be trying to solve these problems rather than still dabbling in string theory and M-theory, unless the latter two "theories" can help to explain these anomalies.
