What are the reasons that can explain Marcury has comparably a surface that is quite similar to the Moon’s surface?

Mercury's surface contains many craters like our Moon which is due to a lack of atmosphere to atuaate meteoroids and thus causing it as well to be cratered. It is covered with multiple craters and the surface also has mountains that are ridged and plains like those found on the Moon.
