That was back in 2009. Since then, one film came out which I think could be considered as best in terms of cinematic art for years to come, and this is Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

I remember seeing a review of Speed on a show called Movies, Movies, Movies, and the look of the film was just astonishing. Back when CGI wasn’t particularly prevalent in films, and story telling and production value really counted for something.

Shoutout for Tarantino remembering how awesome Speed was when it came out in 1994, same year as Pulp Fiction. 1994 was one of the best ever years for Hollywood.

When Speed came out and was VERY successful, it was considered to be a "sleeper hit", because NO ONE had high expectations for it. It hadn't really been hyped up or anticipated by audiences and critics. It's like it just suddenly showed up one day and knocked everyone's socks off. Keanu Reeves was still considered to be a joke to a lot of people at the time, even after hits like Point Break. So when Speed came out and turned out to be a really, really good action thriller, critics and audiences were kind of taken by surprise.
