Why Do We Look Better in Mirrors Than in Photos?

Why is it, for instance, that when looking at photographs of oneself, the images do not seem so appealing, yet in those instances when you are looking in the mirror you consider yourself more attractive?

One reason why you might look more attractive than actually is that you are used to seeing a mirror image which is not the actual you in real life. The flipped version of your face is what you have gotten used to, so when you come across a photo where you're not edited, you can get quite disappointed. Furthermore, photographs may even distort your face in a way because of a different focal length used in the objects.
