Many people experience the delicate fragrance of lush greens and wonder where it comes from – The answer lies in organic compounds known as GLVs. As the callous cuts arise due to the leaves being severed from the other constituents, the grass releases these compounds to accelerate new cell generation. Though essentially the smell of the grass in pain, the combination of GLVs that contain alcohols and aldehydes along with oxygenated hydrocarbons are soothing to the human nose.

I don’t think that’s the reason grass smells so good to us. It’s bc it triggers a sense memory. It indicates the smell of summer, being a kid and playing and being out of school and having fun. It’s also the smell of spring coming, of new life and rebirth and an end to the cold, frozen ground and dead plants.
