What is about the snowy sceneries that gives them a calm, serene touch?

Snow is a sound insulator because it is porous, as with foam. With the increase in snow cover, air gets trapped between the flakes. That means compared to raindrops, sound waves have far fewer surfaces to reflect off of. Most sounds are therefore muffled - heavy snowstorms can seem quiet.

The explanation of why snow is so quiet also explains why we rarely see lightning or hear thunder during snow storms which was something i was curious about and looked up a couple days ago
