Can it be said that viewing problems in a third-person manner is advantageous in that it enables better solutions to be developed?

Certainly, this is the case. Such a phenomenon is called a Solomon’s Paradox where one is rational when thinking about someone else’s problems and not when dealing with their own. To deal with this limitation, a self-distancing strategy can be employed. This involves lifting oneself above a particular situation and dealing with it as an outsider which helps in sharpening ones’ reasoning and coming up with satisfactory solutions to self-made dilemmas.
