The Dunning-Kruger effect is one of the many cognitive bias. It is very common among many people and it manifests in people overestimating their intelligence and skill. Low self-awareness and low cognitive skills, when paired together, result in a poor person being too immodest about their potential.

While people do claim to be smarter than they really are (such as in your content on pseudo-intellectuals), the Dunning-Krueger effect itself has been debunked.
