This behavior is attributed to the consistent dopamine-seeking reward cycle. It is not just pleasurable activities that are sought after as dopamine does drive curiosity and seeking information as well. Scrolling through feeds is indeed one of the many informative actions but it is the dopamine action that gets triggered which makes one continuously seek even more content, often times to the point where they need to be stopped.
