One of the aspects of freestyle that is often taken for granted is breath management, which in actuality begins with the rotation of the entire body rather than just moving the head or mouth. During freestyle swimming, respiration takes place with no interruption to the stroke cycle and the body remains horizontal. Do not bring the head out of the water, for this will cause the legs to be submerged and to create resistance. Instead of raising the head, keep it underwater and rotate it to the side to inhale, and then quickly place it back under the water. Do most of the body rotation first so as to create a bigger space which will facilitate breathing. You can also practice head stable while shoulder rotation with a snorkel as a head still position, head still position will be helpful in maintaining head position.
