In order to have a good horizontal body position while in the water, there are some things to work on: don’t bring your head up and look straight to the floor of the swimming pool, keep your core by pulling the belly button inside tightly, and make sure your body twist is in the correct action by lifting the shoulders above the water level on the corresponding stroke. Your hips should come after the movement of your shoulders. Positioning in the body and the head graze the side in which the swimmer is searching for breath a hand should be submerged. If you are unable to perform these movements well, first of all, focus on some technique, for example, for ten weeks focusing on Freestyle Basics as presented at the swim gym.com acts like attention towards all fundamentals of swum freestyle.

It takes a lot of practice being a senior swim newbie. It took me months of pool time only to get a sense of free style rhythm (and to build up swimming muscle). I have just begun the shoulder rotation phase; will take a month or more to lock it down. I do better in breast stroke. However breathing equal and easy for each lap is not natural yet. However I know when everything being right doing breast stroke is like, as if I can swim for a long time.
