Is there a method through which longing can easily be expressed in a song that may have lyrics like ‘hello from the other side’ or even ‘I must have called a thousand times’?

Longing is an emotion that songwriters look to include in their music with the help of artificial words and phrases. Telling tales and evoking mental pictures through the lyrics along with the use of rhyme and repetition to express and create the feeling helps integrate longing into song lyrics. Separate longing can also emphasize the melody and harmony of any chord progression which makes use of a slow tempo or minor scale.
