What is the reason that airplanes still have their noses pointed skyward during a decent?

As the plane descends, the pilots avoid putting the nose down since it is not the position of the nose that causes the aircraft to pitch but rather the thrust applied. The thrust increase will cause the airplane to rise, and vice versa for descend. As for approach maneuver, the nose is raised to reduce speed when preparing for landing.

The pitching up while landing is called flaring. This happens as the Commercial jets cant land with the nose pointed down
Smaller jets can though. The pitching up during descent helps slow the plane down and in case of a go around they are already pitching up so all they have to do is apply power which will allow the plane to start climbing

Pilots also raise the nose up to flare to touchdown on the back wheels if you touchdown on the front wheel the plane will bounce up and have extreme risk of damaging the landing gear or the plane or both

The statement about the aircraft's nose position during descent is completely false. When descent begins the nose pitches down, the only time the nose pitches up during the descent is the final second before touchdown.
