Chimes on an airplane can indicate various things. A single chime may signal upcoming turbulence or a request from the pilot. Two consecutive chimes often mean the airplane is approaching 10,000 feet. Three or more chimes can indicate a serious problem, such as an extremely ill passenger or a warning for extreme turbulence.
