It's important to stay awake during takeoff and landing because the air pressure inside the cabin changes rapidly, affecting the pressure in your ears. Being alert allows you to perform actions like yawning or swallowing to equalize ear pressure. Moreover, most accidents happen during these phases, and being awake ensures you're alert and conscious in case of an emergency.

Guys, seriously don’t sleep during takeoff or landing. I did once and I woke up with excruciating pain in both ears. I couldn’t hear for days after the flight and it hurt really bad.
