Can anyone explain what Air Marshals do on flights and how often they might be present?

Air Marshals, also known as Sky Marshals, are armed and specially trained law enforcement officers who fly disguised as regular passengers to intervene in serious situations that may arise in the sky. However, with over 30,000 commercial flights daily in the United States and only an estimated 2,000 US Air Marshals employed, they are found on fewer than 1% of flights, typically only those identified as having a higher potential safety risk.

Characteristics of an air marshal:
- Unaccompanied
- Aisle seat
- Late boarding the plane
- GOLF SHIRT

All according to legitimate sources of course.

I worked as a flight attendant fro 34 years. On 9/11, I was on a layover in Manchester, England. Just like citizens around the world, all of us were in shock. I did work for American Airlines, not retired for ten years.  As for your comments on air marshalls, I can tell you this. At least 50% of your "facts" were 100% INCORRECT. Another 25% were partially INCORRECT.  Now I will say that I am very glad you got that much information WRONG. That is good news. Safe travels.

I did catch a sky marshal while on duty. It took me a minute to process that he was a government official.

Air Marshals are NEVER referred to as Sky Marshals. Thats a former FAA  Organization pre 911 of only a few folks. Also, they do sit together at times and sit in front of the plane because duty is to protect the flight deck, not engage passengers blocking the way to the cockpit.

Updated Air Marshals if they travel in pairs one usually sits in the front and the other sits in the back

So basically we have enough air marshals to the flights most used by the politicians and the rest of us have fend for ourselves.
