I’ve recently begun working on becoming a more efficient runner and am therefore curious about the mechanics of running. For example, what is the function of the hip flexors during running?

The hip flexors use their muscled tendons to bring the swinging leg into motion during the motion of running forming an essential part. It costs more effort when the leg swings as if in a pendulum motion which is backward rotating instead. But when it has more of a swinging like motion, so the hip flexors aren’t required to do as much work making running an efficient process with fewer strides.
