I have a cyclocross bike and am attempting to get into gravel riding. Should I use a gravel bike built specifically for this kind of riding?

Without a doubt, you can start your gravel riding with a cyclocross bike as you can ride one without much fuss but gravel bikes make more sense as they are generally more comfortable, more stable, and allow more tire clearance for versatility over diverse surfaces. Gravel bikes are designed for the purpose of riding gravel and covering long distances so if you consider progressing in your gravel cycling hobby it would be the right thing to do and invest in a gravel bike.

This is the best humor content I’ve seen in a long while. Nice job! And thanks we all need to laugh more and judge less nowadays. It just dawned on me that you didn’t mention gearing. I, and nearly every other graveler I know, have agonized over gearing. The hills are steep in our area and most gravel bikes just are not geared low enough, but have road freehubs. Spreadsheets, mullet setups, too wide of spacing in 1x setups, but 2x is old school…. A lot of drama and judgement around susp forks and droppers also.

Love it!! And YES, I do gravel with my CX bike because...I don't have a gravel bike;-) Actually, my CX bike has two sets of wheels...asphalt (GASP!!) and gravel. 2 bikes in one. I have even attempted a few mountain bike trails with this beast and it (kinda) works. So, in the ''spirit of gravel'', here are my ''rules'':
1-Don't pivot, stay on the rivet

Between a cyclocross bike and a gravel bike is the geometry. I happen to love the racy geometry of the cyclocross I just get wider tires to absorb the vibration I don't need a longer wheelbase but then again I have not gone 50 miles per hour downhill on a gravel trail, be cursing if I don't have a wider wheelbase for control... Also forgot to mention the rule about gravel not allowed to be flat, gravel is pretty much only allowed to be like in the tour de France an incline you would Everest on.

"What's the difference between that old cyclocross bike and a gravel specific bike?" --- about $3,000...
