The hopping gait adopted by kangaroos is the most specialized form of terrestrial locomotion achieved by mammals. With their hind limbs being the largest, kangaroos’ muscular legs act as the pillars of their remarkable leaping capabilities. With their large heads and short forearms, a majority of them are able to put their foot down, allowing them to leap into the air. This enables them to jump and fall in great strides across the length. In addition, their muscular tail counterbalances them while they jump, helping them stand and change direction while running and supporting them while they sleep.
