When buying cycling shoes, it is best not to buy an extra-length pair of shoes as this will misplace the position of the cleat which is likely to cause some stress. To check the size, remove the inbuilt insole and place it on the foot. Space of more than a fingers width from the vertices of the longest toe should not be allowed. Also check that the foot is not dangling way beyond the edges of the insoles as this shows that the shoe size is somewhat smaller. When encasing the feet into shoes, the heel should be the first area to touch the inside – aimed at fitting the heel cup and determining fit at the front of the shoe.
