Considering the eye-watering price of the SRAM RED groupset, is it within reach of average riders?

The SRAM RED groupset is made and advertised towards two groups of cyclists; The primary group comprises cyclists willing to buy expensive, top-end bicycles with the intent of bilking them out of their hard-with purchases, secondary group includes every possible racer who is at the uppermost level where not only the utility but the looks of the groupset count as well with regards to the race. However, while the groupset may not be for the general average biker, the technology behind SRAM RED groupset will eventually trickle down to cheaper bikes aimed at mass markets.

It’s crazy to me that the high end groupsets cost as much as a used car!

£4600 for a groupset.  FFS! I am sure it is very nice, but I think I'll pass.

It was always going to be expensive but we all know it’ll be heavily discounted within 12 months. Feel they missed an opportunity to go below Shimano RRP. You’ve got to be a die hard sram fan to turn down dura ace for £2000 cheaper and go with this instead. It is very pretty though

At those prices no wonder the cycle trade is in trouble

Wtf is that price seriously 5200€ for a full group set. I mean ye it’s nice and everything but knowing I got brand new full set of red 6 months ago for 2000€(complete set with power meter) seems crazy this would cost 5200€

I have Force 22 on four of my bikes. Was thinking about "upgrading" one bike to 12-speed, but I'll pass. I will be spending money to add weight to my bike and probably not have any significant benefits over what i currently have.

£4600 ...,my whole custom build cost me only  just over 5k & with that I've got a full Merida Reacto 4000 carbon frame set in size 56cm which came with CW carbon 440mm handle bars & a 380mm aero carbon seat post, full 105 12 speed hydraulic disc di2 groupset which i recently upgraded to from the mechanical Ultegra 8020 version, my rims are by Prime, 50mm carbon, the Black Edition layed in with Tpu tubes all wrapped up in 28mm Continental Gp5000s black chilli compound race tires, Specialized S-Works Romin II carbon printed saddle and last but not least PD-R8000 peddles....,think maybe that this groupset is only for show off's who has more money than sense or really for the serious bike racer.....

A 105 groupset shifts perfectly and doesn't drop a chain, even when you neglect it, even mechanical.
Even top racers would find it difficult to have a measurable gain from such a groupset.
This is only for OSPW dentists

This quote has to sum up the bike industry “people just expect group sets not to drop chains, and SRAMS group sets drop chains” damn right we expect that from a 4500£ group set  my 10yo DA 9000 never dropped chains neither does my 9200

love the idea of high end products, but thats how many triban roadbikes? ;)

In the current financial climate I am curious how many they will sell...

Love the Van Rysel. Looked cool. At that money, I'd go Campag just because it's a bit more bling.

As I don't race or ride particularly fast I couldn't justify the cost, though it does look nice. Do agree with Jimmi on the GRX shifters.

Nice overview! I can afford it, but I don't see the value in it for me.

Nice to see something affordable for the everyday rider.
