If you have an M1 Mac Mini, upgrading its storage to 2TB is fairly inexpensive, especially if you buy blank NAND chips which are about $100. Of course, this is without consideration for the required tools and devices. Apple charges around $800 for that same upgrade which is too much if you are able to handle it on your own and have the needed tools.

For normal humans: the mac mini has a thunderbolt port. An external 2 or 4 TB SSD with a thunderbolt controller isn't cheap - and it's only half the speed of the internal SSD - but you just plug it in, and it's still insanely fast, more than fast enough to run software and do things like video editing. Highly recommended.

Luke Miani: Apple your really pissing me off right now look we just want to upgrade a Mac mini from a quarter TB to 2TB is that too much to ask?
Apple: YES IT IS, NO UPGRADES ALLOWED, you'll take what we give you and you'll like it.

I just made a 2TB Thunderbolt 3 external drive for my M1. It is much faster than the 256GB internal drive and there was no danger. The thunderbolt case was around $130 and the 2 TB MV M2 drive was about the same price.

$800 for the upgrade though apple. $800 for the specialty tools to do it, yourself. “Clicks 2tb drop-down, and orders.”

Super awesome! Thank you. BTW if you want to eliminate the flicker of your lighting, shoot in 30fps, 1/60th of a second. :)
