What Do I Need to Build My Own SSD?

I have a specific interest in building my own SSD from scratch. What parts do I need for that?

If you want to create your very own SSD, you will require an SSD Enclosure such as the Asus TUF Gaming Enclosure and also a Solid State Drive such as the 2TB Hynix Platinum SSD. The enclosure should be of sufficient mass or thickness in order to dissipate the heat which is generated by the SSD and should be able to utilize the latest transfer protocols such as USB 3.2 Gen 2 for best performance. In addition, you will need a connecting cable which will attach the enclosure to the computer and a small assembly tool as well.

How ca you “expand” an SSD ? By swapping it with a larger capacity one ? In that case I can buy a new external SSD and not bother swapping. Simply if I need to access a file from my old SSD all I need is to plug it in an USBC port and that’s it. While on my old NVMe I need to disassemble it again to swap

I do build my own but not with the idea that I will throw away a 500GB drive and replace it, not expand, with a larger drive. It's not a money saving thing. ASUS enclosures are $40+. You can get cheap ones but sometimes run into incompatibilities.
SSD architecture has also changed. SATA to NVMe for example.

you haven't built anything. All you've done is buy an SSD, and an external enclosure, and put the SSD in the enclosure. Four screws aren't much of an assembly

Enclosures are for people who had an m2 SSD laying around after an upgrade, this is not a new thing
