What is the impact of bike cleaning on aerodynamics?

In terms of aerodynamics, does cleaning my bicycle make any noticeable difference or is it just eye candy?

Your aerodynamics may really benefit from a clean bike. Excessive dirt on the drive train can add a few extra watts owing to friction, and dirt or mud on the frame can disrupt the airflow patterns around a bike, almost always negatively. Had the bike been cleaned, the surfaces would have been smooth to allow air to efficiently flow around, resulting in considerable aerodynamic benefits.

Good stuff, I had already planned on making some aero upgrades for next summer, so this is helpful. Wheels deeper than 38mm, aero bars and aero helmet, aero jersey's is all I wear. Bikes are expensive, so I never understood dirty bikes. I always say a clean chain is a fast chain.
