What strategies can I implement to avoid my quads dominating and ‘loading up’ too much during high power cycling sessions?

In order not to overhype your quads as you cycle, keep in mind to engage your glutes to the greatest extent possible. You can do this by changing your hip position. If you are in a situation where you are in a quad overuse position, try to roll your hips back by pushing back on the saddle. This minor shift has the potential to lessen the amount of the burden on your quads. Moreover, standing up to pedal for a few seconds can also be effective in trying to turn the glute muscles on. Loosely when they are firing, sit down again and try to maintain their engagement, particularly when in an aero position where you tend to slide forward on the saddle which tends to over-activate the quads.

Thank you so much for this. Rehabbing from 3rd hip surgery and that quad dominance has been so detrimental to my recovery. This helps so much!
