For cyclists and triathletes, a good exercise is the prone glute activation which is an excellent glute activation exercise. This exercise promotes the development of the mind muscle connection and helps to increase power and stability. In this exercise one lies on the stomach, with the head resting on the hands and the toes pressed into the mat and engages the glutes while keeping the hamstrings relaxed. It is also necessary to emphasize correct breathing and contraction of other muscles in order to perform correct activation of the glutes.

How does this equate to power on the bike? I can think of myriad ways to engage the glutes, from squats to bird dogs, but lying face down on the floor and pressing the ball of your foot into the ground doesn't do a damn thing to improve force transfer to the pedals.

The glute doesn't extend the knee the quad does. With the knee bent the hamstring will fire. How does this activation translate?
