I require a machine with high RAM capacity. Does the RAM on the iMac 27 inches, however, allow for an upgrade?

The 27-inch iMac does indeed have user-replaceable RAM that allows for memory upgrades by the user. This might be economical, as you can purchase the iMac on its basiceight gigabyte of ram configuration and increase the memory later when needed. Such a feature offers some versatility as well as cost efficiency in relation to the iMac Pro which features ECC memoy that is not user replaceable.

The new 27 Inch I-Mac will have more processing and graphics power, it has the same SDXC card slot, and can be upgraded to 10Gig Ethernet, and you can upgrade the Ram yourself, (which you can't do on the I-Mac Pro).  It has True Tone, the T2 Chip and all SSD up to 8 GB (the I-Mac Pro only goes to 4TB).  Also the new I-Mac has the awesome Nano-texture Glass, and an Radeon Pro 5700XT with 16GB of GDDR6  graphics memory.  Apple ought to call this one the I-Mac Pro and the smaller one the I-Mac.
