What is the useful life of a 5K iMac from the year 2020 assuming I buy it today? Will it get outdated anytime soon?

Did you know the 2019 and 2020 iMacs have hidden Fusion and NVME slots on the board? I read where a guy adds them back on. Run at 8G speed.

Many thanks for this content, I found a refurbished 2020 - 27 inch imac for 1,111 £ which is pretty much same price as m1 imac and I’m very hesitant… I don’t like the design of the new imacs and I’m in love with the old one… what should I get?

8 years sounds good for prices I'm seeing today (between 800 ~ 1200)

I have one and I bought one at the end of 2022. This thing is BEASTTTT! Like Brock Lesnar Style!

Anyways, It's i7-64gb ram-5700xt gpu. I did get it for around $1800ish from Apple but I did want to say, the logic board failed and I got it replaced easily no charge from Apple which is why I recommend it to get it from there or from a reputable retailer.

Anyways, this thing is a beast. I also have a M1 Pro laptop and that thing is fast as well..but I always go to my Intel iMac for content editng or because of the 5k Screen. I love it.
If you are on the fence, either get this iMac but make sure to get it like at a cheaper cost, maybe like $1200ish? You get the power of the M1 pro essentially with the 5k screen and mouse and keyboard.

If money isn't an object, then go M1 or m2 Max or Ultra mac studio + Studio display..but that will rack you up in price way more than this 5k iMac. This iMac is still strong competitor despite it being Intel. Again I know this because it goes EASILY head to head with my M1 Pro laptop. The dedicate GPU is clutch. I think when M3 Pro comes out, it'll probably render this iMac a bit weaker but it'll still do its job really well considering people are still buying 2017 iMacs lol.

You can expect the 2020 5K iMac to still be in working condition for some years in the future. It’s quite powerful and even upgradable so it should fit the bill for another 8 years or so and hence, the purchase is good for computing needs now and in the future. This model’s design also resembles the most recent iMacs, thus it will not become obsolete in the near future. However, those who are planning for a decade long usage of an iMac should think about the time span of software support and the development of Apple’s own silicon during that time as well.
