There are reported improvements of the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips that are said to be within the new MacBook Pros’ M4 architecture especially in the genre of CPU cores which focuses on maximum performance. The architectural range of the on board 12 Core CPU is expected with the M4 Pro while 16 core CPU is expected with the M4 Max, this suggests that stronger CPU Cores with more core counts will be included allowing iMac’s to have a superior single core performance and multi-core performance boosts as well. It is expected that the core counts for GPUs will not change, with a maximum count on the max model at 40 GPU cores, but with slight improvements for GPU performance expected.

I’d say when 16 GB becomes the default it won’t be enough

Several months ago I opted for the M3 Pro MBP 14 because the base model has 18/512.  That's what a base model should look like!

It’s beyond pathetic that we have to celebrate the fact that macs coming out in 2025 get 16 Gb of ram.

Apple welcomes in 2008 with 16gb of ram!

I’ve got the M1 Max binned 24 core GPU 64 gb ram, not upgrading till OLED screen is on MacBook

16GB of RAM in 2024 is not to be celebrated on something labeled a "pro" device.

Can’t wait for performance benchmark of M4 Pro and Max. Mac mini sounds great

Macbook pros should be coming with 32gb of ram standard its a pro device. Also for all the years they ripped us off with 8gb ram they should offer 32gb ram. The ridiculous ram prices they charge is insane.

Big question for me when it comes to Mac mini Pro and MacBook Pro is whether the RAM which was 16GB will be bumped up to 24GB or 32GB? If not, I think these computers should get a price cut as they have lost one advantage they had over the base chip configurations.

in M4 they increased number of efficiency cores only, which doesn't make sense for grid powered desktops like mini and studio...

I’ll probably take the plunge on a 16 GB (or more) M4 when it’s released… Although I have to admit, I have been using an 8 GB M2 because I got it slightly used for an insanely good price. I only intended it to be for a year or two, but that thing is performing like a champ, so will be no problem waiting until next year to upgrade.

that was not originally a problem for M1 MacBooks Pro. I still have the base model with 16GB RAM

Any rumours about how many external monitors an M4 Pro can power?  It drives me crazy that while my M1 Pro can run its internal display plus two thunderbolt external displays that it can’t run 3 external in clamshell mode. I’d rather not have to buy an M4 Max just to run monitors.

They will upgrade the base models to 16gb RAM but also upgrade the price

16gb is a joke in 2024 lmao I’m a 3d renderer and that’s nothing in 2024 the PROS should ship with 32gb ram for $1699
by (100 points)
I still wouldn't be surprised if they end up just going from 8 to 12GB.

I’d highly doubt that the M4 Pro and Max would come with 4 e cores. It would make no sense to lower the power efficiency of the M4 Pro and not use the 6 e cores for the M4 Pro/Max.

I'm waiting to see the test results and the heat results.

It should always be 32gb of ram or more. I did not buy a Mac because of this freaking 8gb of ram and the outrageous memory upgrade prices.
by (100 points)
8 GB is a joke, 16 GB, +200.00 to update at 16 is horrible. 800.00 for a desktop with 8gb ram? please.

Temporal Dithering -- you Apple Influencers need to get Apple to allow MacBook users to TURN OFF Temporal Dithering.  The "rapid alternation between two adjacent color levels to create a middle ground color" gives a LOT of us splitting headaches.  In addition, it sure does not help performance.  Once Apple adopts OLED Displays for their MacBooks, this problem should be eliminated.  In the meantime, though, it's back to a 2019 MacBook Pro that doesn't have this issue.
