Since I am contemplating the purchase of a new computer with the Apple brand, I would like to know if the mac mini is a good substitute for a macbook?

Indeed, Mac Mini is a decent substitute with respect to a MacBook for users who want value for their money. The latest M2 Mac Mini is priced at $599, which is $400 cheaper compared to the M1 MacBook Air, but is able to outperform it or provide similar results because of the integrated cooling. It’s quite a decent option, if you don't need to move around with a laptop and if you have other devices including a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

To make the choice even better, go with the M2 Pro Mac Mini & an iPad Pro. With the iPad Pro, you can use all of the Microsoft Suite apps (including OneNote) for school and you can draw or handwrite notes on it (whereas you can’t with the MacBook Pro).

And use the M2 Pro Mac Mini at home for more powerful projects

With the cloud, everything you do on the iPad will transfer over to the Mac immediately.

And Boom! Now you can have 2 devices for the price of one

You can have even better portability, and still have a powerful desktop setup

If you absolutely require M2 Pro / Max power & portability, then this doesn’t apply to you, lol. But I’m sure that’s a small minority of the customers anyway

I went with the base model M2 Mini & base model M2 Air for about the same price as the base model MacBook Pro. That gives me a portable option without the laptop having to spend it's life as a defacto desktop.

I just read your content on a 75 inch TV from my Mac Mini. You are right, it's a bargain and better than having to deal with a very small Macbook monitor, a battery and an annoying form factor. And you know what? there are plenty of TVs out there and I use my Mac Mini like a portable computer because everywhere I go (friends, hotels) I find a TV, which is big enough to enjoy my content in a relaxed living room.

I paired a base model M1 Mac mini with a Google Pixelbook Chromebook and am pleased with the combination.

Let's not forget one doesn't have to worry about continually replacing overheated, swollen batteries that cause the MBs/MBPs to shut down. That is a BIG reason I would vote for the Mini along with the cost.

Too bad you can’t just plug Mac mini into your old MacBook for the screen and keyboard function. Thanks for posting

I'm sitting with an M1 MacMini from 2020 that I bought in 2021, and it would be my natural choice to buy the M2 Mini. I don't need it yet because I'm fine with livestreaming and editing in FCPX, plenty of power, but I don't think I'll ever invest in a laptop again. It's either going to be another Mini or Mac Studio. The portability is solved by my iPad and I've never really done any serious work on a laptop even when I had one. But that's me.
