Data provided by the accelerometer embedded in the Apple Watch is used to determine the stability, or rather the disturbances, of breathing during the sleep phase. The Apple Company incorporated research to build their algorithm based on data about sleep obtained from laboratory focused studies and home tests of obstructive sleep apnea. The algorithm was then further validated against a broad scale dataset to confirm its precision. Its specificity was also remarkably high at 95.9%; this means that the watch does not misinform sufferers without sleep apnea.

Do you need an app to use the sleep apnea notifications? Great vid BTW. Got my Ultra 2 last November and LOVE it!

If you answer you are already diagnosed, you cannot turn on the sleep apnea detection.    What if the individual wants the watch to provide notification in case of insufficient compliance with their apnea therapy?    Although I suppose one could say "undiagnosed" to get access to the feature.

They need a better number than just 50% above 80% above 20% below etc like an actual readiness score like they do on whoop/Garmin/Samsung/Google....

What I haven't been able to find out so far is if the Sleep Apnea feature will be available for Ultra 1. I've read on Apple's site that it will be available for Apple Watches series 9 or newer and Ultra 2. But no where has mentioned Ultra 1. Does anyone have any documentation or have confirmation that this feature shall be available for people who don't want to / don't need to upgrade to the Ultra 2?

Will notify you of A fib also, and what about crash and / or fall detection?  Things happen, and Apple Watches have saved a lot of people’s lives.  Has Garmin?  But ya, for now I have a cheap tracker that lasts 8-10 days.  When I get older I’m getting the Apple for sure.

For sleep apnea, wouldn’t it be useful to have oxygen levels associated with that? And they got rid of the oxygen sensor. Seems like a missed opportunity

I will change my Ultra 1 for AW 10 only for sleep apnea , because I suffered
