Net metering is referred to as the policy that deals with excess energy generated by your solar panels; this energy is fed back into the grid so that your energy meter runs in reverse and results in a credit for energy provided. The reverse occurs when you draw energy; the energy meter rotates forward. In an ideal situation, a farmer draws the same amount of energy from the grid as he provides, resulting in a net zero energy requirement and a zero electricity bill. However, this depends on your power company having a net metering policy and on the amount of solar you can harness.

I’m a solar representative in Texas, I’ve been in solar Sales for 8 years now and this has to be one of the best explanation and representations of how solar and Net Metering works.
Seriously, Marques has explained this flawlessly.

I'm totally baffled by these numbers. My yearly usage is 2900 kilowatt hours with a 3 person family, in a connected home (but not an appartment). Those HVAC systems must be freaking monsters.

In many economies, the reversing counter is no longer an option becuase you're pushing energy to grid when energy is cheap and pulling when it is more expensive. So batteries will be imperative in the future.

I'm five years solar. With just a 6kw solar system and net metering. All gas appliances my electric bill averages about $12 per month. Excellent content, thank you.

As a solar consultant for 9 years in CA, this is an amazing content! Thank you for not being bias towards a certain company and clearly explaining how solar works with net metering. Love the way you broke it down. The tesla batteries are awesome with the app. Congrats on your bad ass system! Huge fan of yours!
