Lithography in art entails an artist engaging in what is termed as the ‘mirroring’ effect in the design of their artworks. In layman’s terms, an artist must know in advance that the image after printing will not be the same as the lithograph drawing on the lithography surface. For instance, if an artist typically draws a picture starting from the left side, there is need for them to cognitively change this as the final print will be a mirror image of the original with what are seen as the left elements winding up on the right side. In printmaking, this is where lithography stands out as it requires more planning and consideration while designing since the artist has to always think about how this mirroring is going to influence the balance and composition of the final artwork.
