Yes, the SRAM Red eTap AXS groupset is lighter when compared to the previous 12-speed version. This is an overall reduction of 218 grams, so the total weight of the power meter equipped groupset is 2388 grams. The largest weight reduction comes from the new, power meter chainset which has been reduced by 116 grams.

The old model powermeter and chainring aren't one part. At least. Not the picture you're showing. The SRAM red road groupset has an integrated chainring/powermeter setup. The xplr doesn't.

The cassette loses weight because they moved from 1 aluminum cog to 3.

Less weight + less longevity = more money for SRAM.
