Studies of NormaTec compression boots have produced inconsistent results. For instance, a study from 2017 pointed out that these devices could be useful in the recovery process by reducing the muscle oxidative stress and proteolysis markers after heavy resistance exercise. On the contrary, a study in 2023 argued that extracellular water content, which is an index of swelling, was not significantly different after using the boots from the time when the boots were not used. Furthermore, there was no difference in the levels of blood markers of inflammation in between populations using intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) and populations who did not use this method. Hence, there are possibilities of some advantages, but there is no solid proof, and the efficacy may depend on the person concerned and what his or her recovery requirements are.
