Snap's self-contained AR glasses are an innovative product developed by Snapchat that extends Snapchat's visual effects to the physical world. It is aimed at developers in the form of eyeglasses that are mounted on a subscription model of $99 per month. They have dual Qualcomm system on chip, utilize eMagin’s projector, and have a battery that lasts approximately 45 minutes. The glasses operate using Snap OS which is multi app enabled and allows phone connectivity and even a web connection. The gloveless devices also support hand interaction as well generative AI such as ChatGPT. But they are not designed for common household consumers, as they are quite large and battery life is small.

I can't see this kind of thing being even slightly useful until it has a better battery life or a smaller form factor, ideally both.

As it stands now, where it's still very conspicuous and the battery life is so short that you're only going to be wearing this exactly when you're using it, I can barely see any practical advantage here compared to something like a Quest 3. Better battery, better performance, better visuals, better FOV...with the only real tradeoff being that it's bigger and the passthrough (which you're not relying heavily on anyway) is blurrier.

Why have none of these companies making AR glasses considered making a head strap which not only could alleviate some of the weight on the front of the face but could also hold components like the battery?

There are plenty of other companies that made AR glasses, what are you talking about? What about TCL RayNeo X2?

Wow, I'm guessing Meta will have something like this on their Connect. Snap beat them to it :P I'm just glad I'm alive to see this shift from phone to head mounted displays. Sure has a long way to go for mass adoption and the tech to get there. But we're absolutely getting there.

Could they just develop a normal looking glasses, with monochrome display and speakers? Like an upgrade on the even realities G1 glasses? This would be good enough for me to dump my AirPods and watch
